The gold to silver ratio

The ratio tells you how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold buys. At today’s spot prices it is loading. It moves every day as the two prices move, and it says nothing on its own about where either price will go next.

What the spot price means

The spot price is the current price for silver traded in large wholesale amounts, for delivery right away. Every retail price starts from it. When you buy a coin or bar you pay spot plus a premium for minting, packaging, shipping and the dealer’s margin, and the premium is usually a larger share of the price for silver than for gold. When you sell, a dealer pays a price close to spot. The price over spot calculator shows what any quote adds up to.
